Hi

Can't stay in one place long enough to write a post these days. The Portrait Project is over, but I'm still playing catchup, slowly adding portraits to the gallery. That said, I'm already missing the daily practice, so a new project has haphazardly commenced. Details forthcoming.

More Miscellany

• A handful of new portraits are up, though I'm still behind in my scannage.
• As well, I'm doing a new weekly city quiz cartoon for the Post Toronto section. Check it.
• Also also, new call for submissions for a winter show in The Portrait Gallery. All wintry faces welcome!

Grab Bag

Lots of people create a piece a day or portraitize daily, but few have done so quite as diligently as Noah K. Check out his great West Palm Beach series and his funny Las Vegas self portraits. He's the first non-Torontonian I've painted, not for lack of will, mostly because I'm crazy behind sked.

What else? Some pics from a surprise badminton birthday party for a friend. What a gloriously nice day it was.

There are a pile of new portraits in the gallery. In other news, here is something I've really been enjoying this week: Kevin Van Passen's photos are so ridiculously great.

Resort Where?

Doing some sketches for a series of brochures for some Florida resorts. Definitely vicarious living as I sketched boats and beach houses while a late March snow fell here. Spring, where are you?

• In other news, are these awesome or awful?

We saw The Odd Couple at Soulpepper last night. It's an easy show, but it holds up remarkably well, and both Albert Schultz and Diego Matamoros carry it off admirably. I also loved loved loved the two bubbly Pidgeon sisters (and their costumes).
Further neatness: Soulpepper's posters were all done by the amazing Edel Rodgriguez. So beautiful.

Luke Doucet is awesome. His third album is out today, and I am about to give it a first listen. Saw him at Hugh's Room with his lovely wife, Melissa McLelland, and was blown away by both his mean voice and great guitar work.

Portraits of Toronto

I'm up to twenty-three in my Portraits of Toronto series, so I decided to create a new gallery page to house them all. It's here. From now on I will post all petite portraits there.

I'm sorry. I've been away, dear portfolio section. If the work is not archived on your lovely pages, does it cease to exist? Let's hope not. For now, Here's Ms. Merkel, a recent piece for The National.

Other Projects

Portrait Project

I'll be doing one portrait a day until I can't do one portrait a day anymore. Not allowed to spend more than an hour on each one.

Long Live Irony

This is my catch-all site - art projects, journalism, weird experiments, all founded in the general belief that irony is not dead, regardless of what Graydon Carter says.

Dress and Suit

A joint blog where me and the Mr. post our thoughts on fashion and design, and I chronicle my year of not shopping. (I've cheated once.)

The Portrait Gallery

The government has been all kinds of annoying when it comes to creating a respectable National Portrait Gallery of Canada. So we built one in our garage this summer!
